Sunbird Lodge & Fynbos Reserve, Napier, Western Cape Tel: +27 (0)28 42 33 049
There is a great deal to keep you occupied on the farm itself. From relaxing activities like walks and star gazing, to more engaging or physical ones such as bird watching or mountain hiking. We always recommend that you take a Fynbos tour with the reserve owner, Stephen. Through his FGASA qualification and passion for this endangered flora, Stephen will give you an insight into the lives of these amazing plants, and why it's so important to fight for their survival.

With its narrow streets and quaint architecture, Napier is a town full of charm. Along the main road you will find many restaurants, galleries and a host of interesting collector's shops including the Chess Sets and Militaria shop. Other activities include horse riding, hiking (Grootberg trail), donkey cart and tractor rides, and rare species of fynbos as well as flocks of the South African national bird, the blue crane, can be seen in the area.
With this natural beauty and proximity to Cape Town, it is no wonder that so many city dwellers have made this town their chosen getaway destination. Many of the old houses have been bought by 'weekenders' and lovingly restored to their former grace.

Breeding ground of the Southern Right Whale
The Cape Overberg stretches along endless coasts and over mountain ranges. It has beautiful vistas across the farmlands, particularly in late winter, interesting geological formations, abundant birdlife as well as unique fynbos.
With kilometers of sandy white beaches and coastal coves it is the lure which sees Southern Right, Humpback and Bryde's whales migrating to its waters to calve and nurse their young. These gracious mammals, mere meters from the shore, provide unsurpassed whale watching.
Here too is Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent and official meeting point of the mighty Atlantic and Indian Oceans. (Distances below from Napier)
